FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Never been to therapy before? Not sure what to expect? I’ve broken down some of the most common questions below.

  • I am currently in network with both Aetna and Optum (including United Healthcare) insurance plans.

I am out-of-network with all other insurance plans, which means you pay out of pocket for services. Most clients check for out-of-network benefits that may allow them to receive partial reimbursement for mental health services. If you have out-of-network benefits, you will be provided with a monthly “superbill” that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

  • You will need to confirm what outpatient mental health services you have covered and at what rate directly with your insurance company. You can ask the following questions to your insurance provider by calling the Member Services phone number on the back of your insurance card to get information about your benefits:

    1. Do I have out-of-network coverage?

    2. Does my out-of-network health insurance plan include outpatient mental health benefits?

    3. What dollar amount or percentage of each psychotherapy session is reimbursed or covered?

The billing codes I generally use are listed below - it may help to ask “what is my financial responsibility for XXX billing code?”

Initial/First Intake Appointment: CPT Code 90791

      Ongoing Appointments: CPT Code 90837

    4. How many outpatient mental health or psychotherapy sessions per calendar year are covered by my health plan?

    5. Do I need a pre-approval, pre-authorization, or referral from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?

  • Initial 15-minute Phone Consultation: Free

    First Appointment (Intake Session): $200

I accept credit, debit, and HSA cards.

  • Appointments are generally 55 minutes.

  • At this time, I see clients exclusively via telehealth. I use a secure, HIPAA compliant platform to conduct sessions. Telehealth has been extensively researched and results show it is just as effective as in-person sessions, with the added perks of convenience, sweatpants, and no travel time!

  • It depends on your individual needs and goals. Therapy can be geared short-term for a few sessions or longer-term for a few months and beyond. Through collaborating with me, we can figure out what works best for you.

  • While I recommend the typical frequency of weekly or every other week for most clients to maintain consistency, it is dependent on need and progress towards goals. What’s most important is making sure you feel supported through this process, so appointment frequency is dynamic and flexible.
